Hunter eyes & canthal tilt explained

Few looksmaxxing terms get talked about as much as "hunter eyes." It describes a particular eye shape — deep-set, slightly hooded, with a confident forward tilt — that the community associates with a striking, intense gaze. The supporting concept is "canthal tilt," the angle of your eyes from inner corner to outer corner. Together they explain a big chunk of why some eye areas read as more compelling than others.

What hunter eyes actually are

Hunter eyes are characterised by a few things working together: eyes that sit slightly deeper in the socket, a touch of upper-eyelid hooding, and a horizontal, forward orientation rather than a wide, round, "open" look. The opposite is sometimes called "prey eyes" — rounder, more exposed, and softer. The hunter look reads as calm and self-assured because the brow and orbital bone frame the eye, giving that hooded, focused appearance many people find attractive.

Canthal tilt, in one paragraph

Canthal tilt is simply the line from the inner corner of your eye to the outer corner. A positive canthal tilt means the outer corner sits higher than the inner corner — an upward slant — which is generally seen as the more aesthetically desirable orientation. A neutral tilt is roughly flat, and a negative tilt (outer corner lower) can give a slightly tired or downturned look. It is one of the most-discussed micro-features in PSL analysis because it subtly shapes the whole expression.

What you can and cannot influence

A lot of the eye area is bone and soft-tissue genetics, so honesty matters here: you cannot simply will yourself a dramatic positive tilt. What you can do is maximise the frame — reducing under-eye puffiness with sleep and hydration, keeping body fat in a healthy range so the orbital area looks defined, grooming the brows to complement the eye line, and using good sleep to limit that tired, hollow look. Presentation will not rebuild your sockets, but it absolutely sharpens the eyes you already have.

Frequently asked questions

What are hunter eyes?
Hunter eyes are a deep-set, slightly hooded, forward-oriented eye shape that reads as intense and confident. They are contrasted with rounder, more open "prey eyes" in looksmaxxing slang.
What is a positive canthal tilt?
A positive canthal tilt means the outer corner of the eye sits higher than the inner corner, creating a slight upward slant. It is generally considered the more attractive eye orientation in PSL analysis.
Can you get hunter eyes naturally?
The bone-deep parts are largely genetic, but you can sharpen your eye area naturally — better sleep, lower puffiness, healthy body fat, and brow grooming all enhance the frame around your eyes.
